Why did you choose Irish Dancing?
People ask me on a frequent basis, why did you choose Irish dancing?
Over the course of six years, I tried so many different careers. I studied Mechatronics engineering at Sligo IT which lasted 2 years before I finally realised it wasn’t for me. My parents of course advising that I continue my study for another year to get my degree but I felt that time was not available to waste. So, I came up with a plan to achieve my dream job as an Airline Pilot. Yes, an airline Pilot! The job you can only hope for after you spend more than €90,000 on flight time, courses and a lot of study to back it up. To try to achieve this I worked night shifts at a filling station or gas station as some of you call it. The money that I earned I spent on flight time, buses (because at the time I wasn’t driving) and airport food. After doing this for some time, I realised that I had to grow up and get a qualification of some sort. But, know that I have not given up on my dream of being a Pilot and still fly planes when I can find the time, and the money! 😀
So, it was time to choose what direction I wanted to head in.

I always had a passion for sport, fitness and health so I knew that this would be a field that I would never get bored of. So, I signed up for my first fitness and health course and qualified as a gym instructor. Since then I have achieved many other qualifications and I still attend courses to this day to gain as much knowledge as I can, to better myself as a coach, a therapist and more importantly as a person.
The light-bulb moment…!
After a few years of working with people from all walks of life, I met this one client who was very impressed with my work. She approached me one day and asked me if I would train her daughter, who was an Irish dancer. This was a light-bulb moment for me! Being an Irish dancer myself in my younger years, like all Irish dancers from the past, my passion for Irish dancing never left me. This was when I decided that I could use all of my knowledge to train dancers and to help them to become the best dancer that they could be. My passion for fitness, health and wellbeing and Irish dancing combined is what makes my career perfect. To date I have had the pleasure to say that I have trained World Champions, National Champions and more importantly, I have helped dancers achieve their first ever World recalls and World medals. As a coach, there is no better feeling than watching your clients achieve their goals.
I look forward to continuing my career as a full-time Irish dancing coach and I look forward to meeting and working with many more dancers, schools and teachers worldwide.
